How to Protect Your Color Treated Hair Naturally

If you color treat your hair, you want to keep that hair looking great. There are some great products on the market today, but they can be expensive and may have ingredients you don’t want to use. So, you do have an alternative and that is trying some natural remedies instead. I have complied a list of natural remedies for keeping that hair healthy and looking great.

Most of these items you can easily find right at your own local grocery store. Most go a long way too, so you get more for your money as well. You may already have some of the items right in your own home. These remedies can be used on both men and women as well.

Dryness Biggest Color Destroyer

You want to keep those colored locks nice and hydrated. Letting your hair dry out too much can cause dullness, frizz, breakage and more. Making sure they have plenty of hydration will actually help your color stand out more and give your hair that silky-smooth look.

Avoid Alcohol based or Acidic Based Items

Both those two things can cause problems for un-colored hair, so they are even worse on colored. They can weaken the hair color and strip your hair. So make sure whatever you use doesn’t contain either.

Protect Your Hair from the Sun

Your hair is susceptible to the sun just like your skin is. The sun can dry out your hair and fade your color. Wearing a sun hat or a head covering is the best defense, but not everyone wants to wear a hat. You can opt for coconut oil because it does contain some SPF benefits to it.

Things That Can Be Used in Your Hair

Here are some great things that you can use in your hair and you can use by themselves or mix with others.

  • Coconut oil
  • Bananas
  • Mayonnaise
  • Olive oil
  • Egg whites

These are the top things that are safe to use in your hair. They are great for using for conditioning or just in between uses at least like 2 times a week. Apply to hair from tip to ends then leave on for approximately 30 minutes and wash out with a gentle shampoo.

Shampoos and Conditioners

If you really want to stick with all natural products. Make sure you purchase a shampoo that is all natural too. Just so you know a lot of all natural shampoo products don’t tend to later as much. That doesn’t mean it isn’t working as well as other shampoos though. You don’t need a lot of lather to get the job done.

Hairstyling Products

If you use hair styling products, make sure you use as close to all natural as you can. Always make sure that what you are using is for color treated hair. If you are someone who uses a curling iron or a straightener, make sure to utilize a hair protectant product. That way you can protect your hair from the high heat both utilize.

Final Thoughts

All natural is always the best to go, so if you can do so. Otherwise, it is trying to use only products that you know are safe by reputable companies and always look at reviews. That way you know what others think about the product as well.
